JobMob dataset available for secondary analyses

The dataset of the project “Job Mobilities and Family Lives in Europe” has been published in the GESIS data archive in Cologne (Study No. ZA5065). It is now available for secondary analyses. Order it here. Download the code book here.

International final conference
October 17, 2008, Brussels (Belgium)

Hosted by the Greens/EFA Group the final conference of the project takes place in the European Parliament. Three presentations summarise the main results from the international analyses. Four comments are spoken by external experts. About 140 people attend. The conference is titled Job Mobilities in Europe. Relevance, Consequences, and New Challenges. More information here.



National workshop

The Belgian team presents results, charecteristic for Belgium, in a workshop following the final conference. Its title is Mobilités professionnelles et vies familiales en Europe. More information here.

1st book publication
October 15, 2008, Opladen (Germany)

The first volume of the book series Mibile Living Across Europe is published. Its title is Relevance and Diversity of Job-Related Spatial Mobility in Six European Countries. The editors are Norbert F. Schneider and Gerardo Meil.



National workshop
October 7, 2008, Madrid (Spain)

Results, based on the Spanish part of the survey, are presented on a workshop in Madrid at the Universidad Autónoma. More information here.

Session on the Conference of the German Association for Sociology
October 7, 2008, Jena (Germany)

The bi-annual conference of the DGS (German Association for Sociology) takes place from October 6 to October 10 in Jena. Norbert F. Schneider and Detlev Lück offer an ad hoc group on job-related spatial mobility Erwerbstätigkeit und räumliche Mobilität. Zur Etablierung eines neuen Forschungsfeldes in der Soziologie. Invited speakers within the project are Silvia Ruppenthal, Heiko Rüger, Beate Collet. Further contributions come from Sven Kesselring and Gerlinde Vogl (Munich), Kay W. Axhausen and Veronika Killer (Zürich), as well as Martin Abraham, Natascha Nisic and Thess Schönholzer (Erlangen / Nuremberg). More information here.

The 3rd European Congress on Family Science takes place in Vienna. Among other contributions, Norbert F. Schneider gives apresentation on Occupation, Mobility and Family in Europe. More information here.

National workshop
May 30, 2008, Mainz (Germany)

A workshop, titled Mobil, flexibel, gestresst? Individuelle und gesellschaftliche Folgen berufsbedingter räumlicher Mobilität presents the results from the German part of the survey at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. More information here.



8th Project meeting
March 7-8, 2008, Geneva (Switzerland)

The consortium meets in Geneva to assess the data quality after coherence analyses. Last challenges regarding the weighting process are debated.

7th Project meeting
October 5-6, 2007, Lyon (France)

The proceeding and outcomes of the field work are assessed. An examination plan is finalised. A strategy regarding data cleaning and weighting is planned.



6th Project meeting
March 12-13, 2007, Lausanne (Switzerland)

Last corrections in the questionnaire are made, based on the pre test results.

5th Project meeting
January 20-21, 2007, Brussels (Belgium)

The team in Brussels hosts the fifth meeting. The structure and flow of the questionnaire are decided. First pre (pre) test results are considered. Further pre tests are planned.

4th Project meeting
November 30-December 2, 2006, Bamberg (Germany)

The consortium meets in Bamberg (Germany). In various expert groups question formulations are evaluated, sorted out and structured.

3rd Project meeting
October 12-14, 2006, Madrid (Spain)

From October 12 to October 14, 2006, the project members come together for a third meeting. The host is the team in Madrid (Spain). The core issue is the questionnaire design.



Symposium on “Job Mobilities and Family Lives” at ESFR Congress
September 28, 2006, Darmstadt (Germany)

During the 3rd ESFR Congress, from September 28–30 2006 at the Technical University Darmstadt (Germany) Prof. Norbert F. Schneider organizes a Symposium on “Job Mobilities and Family Lives”. It takes place on September 28, between 3:10 and 4:40 pm. Speakers are: Dr. Mette Deding (“Geographical mobility of Danish dual-earner couples - The Relationship between Change of Job and Change of Residence”) from SFI in Copenhagen (Denmark), Prof. Helen Louise Ackers (“Understanding Stickiness in Mobility Decisions: the Impact of Gender and Life-course on Length of Stay”) from University of Leeds, and Liz Oliver (“Families and fixed term contracts: Understanding the expectation of mobility in science”) again from University of Leeds.

2nd Project meeting
June 22-24, 2006, Warsaw (Poland)

From June 22 to June 24, 2006, the project members meet in Warsaw (Poland) for their second project meeting. On the agenda are discussions about the final work on the background research that had been done during the last months, as well as discussions about the questionnaire design and fieldwork that lie ahead.
